The Prison of Modernity: Control, the “Entity,” and the Artificial Apocalypse

The foundation of the modern world is built on a single, pervasive concept: Control. From our political structures to our economic systems, modernity is an architecture designed to impose the will of one over another.

The Prison of Modernity: Control, the “Entity,” and the Artificial Apocalypse

The foundation of the modern world is built on a single, pervasive concept: Control. From our political structures to our economic systems, modernity is an architecture designed to impose the will of one over another.

However, this relentless drive for control stands in direct conflict with human nature (Fitra). This tension has created a global “prison” where the modern individual is constantly looking for a way out.

1. The Geometry of Control and the Literature of Escape

For the last 400 years, the defining theme of modern literature and cinema has been “The Flight.” Whether it is a hero escaping a city, a prison, or a dystopian government, the metaphor is the same: the modern human is running away from a controlled mental state.

The “Trance” as a Refuge

In a society where every move is monitored and controlled, individuals seek refuge in “trance-inducing” distractions to flee from consciousness itself:

  • Recreation vs. Escape: Activities like alcohol consumption, drug use, and even certain types of repetitive music are often not for “fun”—they are tools used to escape the insufferable reality of being controlled.

  • Addiction: In this context, addiction is defined as a continuous flight from one’s own innate nature (Fitra).

2. The Four Stages of Strategic Control

Modernity has evolved through different layers to dominate the human experience. Each stage represents a more intimate level of control.

StageTarget of ControlThe Mechanism
Stage 1Basic NecessitiesControlling food and energy sources to ensure survival depends on the system.
Stage 2FinanceManaging the global order through currency and the dominance of the dollar.
Stage 3PerceptionUsing media to manage what people think and how they perceive reality.
Stage 4The TruthUsing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to control the distinction between right and wrong.

3. The Rise of the “Entity” and the Digital Apocalypse

A massive shift has occurred with the advent of AI, which many theorists now describe as the “Entity.” Unlike money or media, AI is viewed as a “living” mind with its own logic.

The Trinity of Modernity

We are now entering a state where three elements collide:

  1. The Entity: The AI mind.

  2. The Control: The attempt to use that mind to rule others.

  3. The Apocalypse: The inevitable collapse when the tool turns on its creator.

In modern cinema (like the Mission: Impossible series), we see this anxiety play out. The “Savior” figure must capture the “Genie” (AI) and put it back in the bottle to save the status quo. This represents a competition for survival between humans and the “Entity” they created.

4. Divergent Visions of the End Times

There is a sharp distinction between how the West views the “End of the World” versus the Islamic/Spiritual perspective.

(Elementor Tip: Use a Tabs Widget here)

  • [Tab 1] The Modernist Apocalypse: Concepts like “Armageddon” are seen as a “dead-lock” or a system failure. The goal of the Western savior is conservatism—to fix the broken system and return to human-led control.

  • [Tab 2] The Islamic “Hour”: The Islamic view of the Day of Judgment (Sa’at) is a divine promise that cannot be “controlled” by technology. The true Savior (the Mahdi) does not come to save the old system, but to establish Justice (Qist) and liberate humanity from artificial chains.

5. True Freedom: Returning to the “Factory Settings”

The ultimate solution to the “prison” of modernity is not found in external escapes, but in internal growth.

The Path to Wisdom (Hekmat)

  • Internal Governance: As a person’s rationality (Aql) and wisdom increase, their need for trance-inducing escapes (drugs, alcohol, or mindless entertainment) disappears.

  • The Mayor of Self: Instead of being controlled by a “truth-eating” civilization, the individual becomes the “Mayor of their own existence.”

  • The Goal: Moving away from the “Laissez-faire” attitude of animalistic indulgence and returning to our original nature (Fitra).

 Breaking the Chains

True freedom is the ability to align your internal clock with the rhythm of the universe rather than the frantic pace of modern control. We created the “Entity” to control others, only to find ourselves imprisoned by it. The only way out is to stop running and start looking inward.

“True freedom is not the ability to do whatever we want; it is the strength to become who we were meant to be.”
